Scar, Keloid Treatment

After skin injury sometimes the wound heals with production of excess repair tissue that is collagen, which then getsdeposited in these scars.

Keloids:

They extend in a claw-like fashion beyond border of original injury, Itching and pain can be present common sites are chest, earlobes, shoulders, upper back.

Treatment:

  • Creams: Topical agents containing silicon can be useful.
  • Intra Lesional Injections: Long acting steroids are injected directly into the scar. A series of injections is usually required to gain the maximal effect- generally given at 2-3 weeks intervals.
  • Flurouracil injections they can be combined with steroid injections.
  • Laser treatment.
