Acne Scars & Marks Treatment

Most of the acne patients are left with red and brown marks on the skin where acne has now cleared. These marks make their skin appear uneven. Various topical preparations and chemical peels are available to lighten and remove these marks.

Different types of acne scars:

  • Rolling scars: This type causes Rolling or ” Wave like” undulations over skin.
  • Box scars: They are wider round and oval depressions. They develop as result of tissue loss after a severe episode of acne and give skin a pitted appearance.
  • Hypertrophic scars: They are thick, firm raised scars.
  • Icepick scars: They are narrow and deep.

Most acne scars are atrophic meaning there is an overall loss of skin. Most acne scar treatments attempt either to remove or replace abnormal tissue and to stimulate new collagen formation to fill old scars.

Here we perform fractionated resurfacing by radiofrequency device or CO2 laser surfacing. Other treatments include dermaroller, subcision, injectable fillers.
Combined approach is often needed for good results.

  • Creams and Lotions- Various creams containing retinol Vitamin C, Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids help in superficial scarring.
  • Chemical peels- They result in smooth, even surface along with improving the texture of skin. eg: TCA peels.
  • Microdermabrasion.
  • Mesotheraphy.
  • Derma Roller- It is a medical microneedling procedure that releases new collagen and elastin in scar tissue. It is effective for scar filling and facial rejuvenation.
  • Filler injection – collagen is injected beneath the skin to replace the body’s natural collagen that has been lost. It is useful in depressed scars like box scars and rolling scars.
  • Fractional Laser Resurfacing
  • Microneedling with Radiofrequency
